Aspen Snow Polo World Cup

An exclusive immersion with C3LLAR and Champagne Baron d'Avella

Scroll

Polo, on snow.

Each December, Aspen packs a polo field into the snow and the world's best players come to it. For one weekend, the Snow Polo World Cup turns the heart of town into the most glamorous sideline in the sport: thundering hooves on white ground, the Rockies behind, and a celebration that runs from the first chukka to the last toast.

In partnership with Champagne Baron d'Avella and its founder Frédéric d'Avella, owner and active player on the Polo de Champagne team, C3LLAR takes a private chalet right on the sidelines of the field for the whole weekend. From here, our members follow the matches with a glass in hand: a continuous tasting of the Baron d'Avella cuvées alongside a curated selection of rare bottles drawn from C3LLAR allocations.

The evenings belong to the table. On Saturday, an intimate dinner at Casa Tua Aspen, hosted alongside Frédéric d'Avella. On Sunday, a closing dinner celebrating the iconic wines of Château de Beaucastel, organised in partnership with Fusalp in a private setting.

A chalet on the field. Champagne between chukkas. Two tables to close.

Champagne Baron d'Avella

I · Champagne

The house of Frédéric d'Avella

Champagne Baron d'Avella is the house of Frédéric d'Avella: owner, founder, and an active player on the Polo de Champagne team. Few houses can claim the game as their natural element. This one was built for it, from the sidelines of the field to the table after the match.

Its cuvées are made to be poured where the sport is played: at the gallop, between chukkas, on grass in Champagne and on snow in Aspen. In December, the house takes its place at the C3LLAR chalet on the sidelines of the Snow Polo World Cup.

On the field by day and at the head of the table by night: on Saturday, Frédéric d'Avella hosts our members at Casa Tua Aspen, pouring his own cuvées and telling the story of a house that lives between Champagne and the polo field.

The wines

  • [Cuvée · Brut]The house's signature. Poured throughout both match days at the chalet.
  • [Cuvée · Rosé]On the sidelines as the afternoon matches unfold.
  • [Cuvée · Prestige]Opened at Casa Tua on Saturday night, with Frédéric d'Avella.

Château de Beaucastel

Five generations of the Perrin family, thirteen grape varieties, one of the great estates of the Rhône. Poured at the closing dinner on Sunday night, in a private setting with Fusalp.

Château de Beaucastel, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

II · Châteauneuf-du-Pape

A century of the Perrin family

The name Beaucastel appears in the records of Courthézon as early as 1549. The modern estate begins in 1909, when Pierre Tramier bought the property and passed it to his son-in-law Pierre Perrin. His son Jacques Perrin made it a pioneer: organic farming from the 1950s, biodynamics from 1974, long before either was fashionable in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Today the fifth generation of Perrins runs the estate. Beaucastel is one of the rare houses to grow all thirteen varieties permitted in the appellation, with an unusual weight given to Mourvèdre and, in the whites, to old-vine Roussanne. The result is a wine built for decades, dense and savoury in youth, and extraordinary with age.

On Sunday night, [Name], Famille Perrin, joins us for the closing dinner, pouring the estate's iconic wines across several vintages and sharing the story of a house that has farmed the same stony plateau for more than a century.

The wines

  • Châteauneuf-du-Pape RougeThe estate's grand vin: Grenache and Mourvèdre leading a blend of thirteen varieties, from the galets roulés of the plateau.
  • Roussanne Vieilles VignesA white from vines planted in 1909, among the longest-lived whites of the southern Rhône.
  • Hommage à Jacques PerrinMade only in the finest years since 1989, Mourvèdre-dominant, in homage to the man who shaped the estate.
